The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay Ruskin has issued a Red Flag Warning for several areas of Florida, from Levy to Lee counties, due to low humidity and gusty winds, which increase the risk of wildfires. The warning is in effect from noon until 7 PM EDT today.
According to the National Weather Service, the affected areas include Sumter, Polk, Hardee, Highlands, DeSoto, Coastal Levy, and Coastal Lee counties. Southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, combined with humidity levels as low as 30%, create ideal conditions for fires to spread quickly. The National Weather Service advises against outdoor burning, as even a small spark could lead to a rapidly spreading blaze.
Today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with highs near 90 degrees. The National Weather Service warns that these conditions could turn a small fire into a larger, uncontrollable one. Residents are encouraged to stay informed on weather updates and fire warnings through the National Weather Service website…
