If You’re a Fast Driver in Michigan, You Better Watch Out!

Here is a really good question. How fast can you drive in Michigan and not break the law and get a ticket?

The simple answer is the posted speed limit! But, it’s a little more complicated than that.

Let’s take the expressways for example. For the most part the posted speed is 70 miles per hour on our expressways. It is 75 miles per hour north of Grand Rapids, but that is the exception to the rule.

However, 70 mph seems to be a joke to most drivers in Michigan. How often have you been driving at 75 mph or more and have drivers pass you as if you are driving at 30? Most of the time, right?

I guess we all feel that five over is okay, and the law won’t care. Then, because everyone seems to be passing you, your speed creeps up and up to the assumed flow.
