Stockton pastor sees Holy Week attendance plunge amid ICE fears

STOCKTON, Calif. — As many families gathered in churches across the country to celebrate Easter, one Stockton pastor says a large number of immigrant families in his congregation stayed home out of fear of immigration enforcement.

At the Lutheran Church of Saint Mary the Pilgrim, the Rev. Nelson Rabell-González said church attendance during Holy Week dropped by an estimated 80%.

“Because of some of the fear that the congregation and, in general, the community has of any kind of potential intervention by ICE or immigration,” Rabell-González said…
