WEATHER STORY: Low pressure systems bring precipitation and North America is home to several styles. There’s the Pacific Low, the Alberta Clipper, the Colorado Low, the Gulf Low and the Nor’easter. When a Colorado Low takes a jog down to Oklahoma before swinging towards the Great Lakes it gets the name Panhandle Hook. Those lows feature a good amount of moisture pulled from the Gulf. One of those is coming our way Monday. Sunday should be nice region-wide but the Hook could drop snow on the South Shore and even North Shore of Lake Superior thanks to moisture and cool air pulled in by the low.
SUNDAY: The high pressure will produce a partly sunny sky. High temps will be near 55 which is warmer than the normal of 49 or so. The wind will be SSE 5-15 mph.
MONDAY: The Panhandle Hook will bring an 80% chance of precip. Minnesota should get rain inland from the North Shore. Wisconsin and the U.P. will get snow. The low will start at 35. The surface high will hit 50 but only 3,000 feet up or so, it will be below freezing so snow is very possible despite the ground temp. The wind will be N 10-20 mph.
TUESDAY: The warmer side of the Hook will be here at least aloft if not at the surface so the focus of precip will shift to rain. There is a 50% chance we’ll get some. The low will be 33. The high will be 47. The wind will be E 5-15 mph…
