Price of Easter traditions driving business to local egg producer

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The record-high cost of eggs in the United States is impacting the price of some of Easter’s most treasured traditions.

Since this time 2024, prices have seen an 84% increase , and it’s having an effect on local egg producers. Many consumers are opting to step away from larger chain stores in favor of smaller outlets like Gillian McNemer’s.

She says her operation has been largely insulated from the impact of inflation and bird flu, so her prices are lower than more established grocers. She’s grateful for the extra business, but it’s getting difficult to keep up with demand with only 20 producing hens…
