Gunman, once acquitted of attempted murder, gets life sentence in Lake Worth fatal drive-by

WEST PALM BEACH — The mother of 21-year-old James Goodman watched from the back of the courtroom as her son’s killer faced the judge. He’d avoided prison once before after the attempted murder of a former classmate, but this time was different.

Circuit Judge Daliah Weiss sentenced Alan Asbury III, 26, to life in prison for killing Goodman and wounding two others during a drive-by shooting in 2019. Prosecutors said Asbury and two accomplices carried out the attack in Lake Worth Beach from a Nissan Altima before setting fire to the car.

A second relative of Goodman and a third person, who identified themselves only with the words “Forever David,” watched the April 17 hearing over Zoom. They said nothing, and the hearing ended quickly…
