According to the PG&E website and notices sent to customers, the change will go into effect May 19. At that time, payments from bank accounts will no longer be free of charge. Instead, customers will pay a $1.50 transaction fee.

For credit and debit card payments, the fee will increase from $1.35 to $1.50. Additionally, payments made using a consumer or personal credit or debit card will be required to pay $6.95. Bill payments made with a commercial credit card will include a surcharge of 1.95% of the payment amount.

“The fees for these payments are set by credit card networks, payment processors, and banks, not by PG&E,” the company said on its website. “California Assembly Bill 746 restricts energy companies, including PG&E, from passing these costs to all customers. Instead, only those using this service are charged these fees.”…
