PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – Portland police are searching for two parents they believe to be responsible for their son’s fentanyl overdose that caused a severe brain injury in 2023.
De’Lone Kelley and Samantha Smith were expected to turn themselves in early April 2025 after pleading guilty to third-degree assault and first-degree criminal mistreatment. Officials say the couple never showed up and their whereabouts are unknown.

Their son’s overdose took place at the family’s apartment at SE Powell Court in June 2023, investigators say. The boy was 3 years old and survived.
