Some councilmembers want sheriff’s downtown safety patrol disbanded

CLEVELAND (WJW)n – For the last 20 months, members of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department Downtown Safety Patrol have been working in downtown Cleveland.

Cuyahoga County Sheriff Harold Pretel told the FOX 8 I-Team he believes the deputies have helped reduce violent crime in the downtown area.

However, some Cuyahoga County councilmembers want to stop funding the program, citing the cost and a March 28 high speed chase that resulted in two deaths…
