A Michigan carnival won the lottery for foreign workers – others aren’t so lucky

WYOMING, MI – Jose Luis Herrara Gaspar’s hand hovers over a control panel as he watches a giant “Sea Ray” ship swing riders up to 50 feet in the air.

They scream when the boat whooshes past. Carnival games ding, lightbulbs flash and the smell of sugary fried dough wafts through Lamar Park in Wyoming, south of Grand Rapids.

It’s the first event of the season, and the carnival is lucky to have Gaspar there…
