East High teacher surprised with Excellence in Public Service Award

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Shanna Zimmerman, a teacher from Wichita East High School, was surprised with a 2025 Excellence in Public Service Award on Monday.

The award from Sedgwick County includes a check for $3,000. Zimmerman says the cash is a pleasant surprise, but the best part of the day was being honored by the former students who nominated her.

“It feels good, I’ve been teaching for 25 years, and it always feels good to have those students come back and share their life and how you influenced them,” she said…
