Rutherford, Murfreesboro seek landfill ‘to restrict the flow of that trash’ from Nashville

Middle Point Landfill’s disposal of Nashville’s trash in Rutherford County could stop if local and regional officials have their way.

The Central Tennessee Regional Solid Waste Planning Board, Rutherford County Commission and Murfreesboro City Council have each approved resolutions asking the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) to enforce the board’s April 2022 decision on limiting trash accepted at the landfill starting Jan. 1, 2023.

The solid waste board that includes Murfreesboro City Manager Darren Gore contends it holds flow control authority to limit disposal of trash at the landfill to only waste hauled in from regional jurisdiction of Rutherford, Cannon, Coffee and Warren counties…
