Central Texas could be getting a new state park after a major land acquisition from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). The agency finalized the purchase of 1,100 acres of a property across the river from Colorado Bend State Park near Austin.
Located in Lampasas and Burnet counties, the property includes 1.5 miles of Yancey Creek, limestone bluffs and several natural springs, according to a news release from TPWD on Monday, April 21. Combined with the recent acquisition of 2,020 acres in Burnet County, the new state park will comprise more than 3,000 acres.
TPWD purchased the property using a combination of a one-time funding appropriation and funds from sporting goods sales taxes, according to the release.
