Pentagon Makeover Sparks Controversy for Defense Secretary

Additional Coverage:

Embattled Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is facing renewed criticism and online mockery after reports emerged of a Pentagon makeup studio, dubbed by some as the “Pentagon Princess’s” private salon. The news follows recent controversies, including a leaked Signal group chat and Hegseth’s remarks about maintaining a fit and sharp military.

While the Pentagon insists the room is a standard “green room” for television appearances, not a dedicated makeup studio, the reported cost of “several thousand dollars” has raised eyebrows. The renovations reportedly include a director’s chair, mirror, makeup light, and a new countertop. A Pentagon spokesperson clarified that most of the upgrades were minor, utilizing existing inventory and internally constructed elements to minimize expenses.

The timing of the renovations coincides with Hegseth’s upcoming media engagements, including a planned Fox News interview. Although the room is intended for press briefings, it has yet to be used for that purpose. This has fueled further speculation and criticism from online commentators, with some even referring to Hegseth as the “Pentagon Princess.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also weighed in on the controversy, jokingly suggesting on social media that Hegseth’s preferred Pentagon makeup products are “concealer and coverup.”

The Pentagon maintains that such room updates are routine, especially during administration changes. A Defense Department official emphasized that the briefing room renovations are not unusual. The green room itself underwent renovations earlier this year, preparing it for use by senior officials and VIPs.
