Albany man pleads guilty after his actions left six officers hospitalized

Albany, NY (WRGB) — The Albany man responsible for the hospitalization of six police officers in September 2024, Friday pleaded guilty to a slew of felony and misdemeanor charges.

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced Rahmel Carter, 38, pleaded guilty to the indictment that charged him with second-degree Criminal Possession Controlled Substance, third-degree Criminal Possession Controlled Substance, first-degree Criminal Contempt, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Resisting Arrest.

On Sept. 18, 2024 at 3:40 p.m., Albany Police responded to “a domestic-related incident at a residence on Slingerland Street.” The first two officers who encountered Carter were reportedly met by fighting and resisting arrest, prompting them to call for backup assistance. While attempting to take Carter into custody, the officers were reportedly exposed to powder cocaine that the suspect had in his possession.
