Members of a local motorcycle club were gathered at a west Erie social club for a fundraiser in January 2024 when city police accuse members of another motorcycle club of showing up and assaulting people at the event.
That alleged fight was the basis for the filing in late March of felony aggravated assault, robbery and other charges against 16 men accused of taking part in the brawl, Erie police have revealed to the Erie Times-News.
Until now, little was known about what led to the large-scale arrests, with a number of suspects picked up in a sweep by law enforcement in and around the city on the morning of March 27. Police and prosecutors would not comment on the case, and the criminal complaints filed against the suspects did not include information on the alleged assault other than the date and location of the incident.
