Prince George’s County Police warn community about courier scams

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — The Prince George’s County Police Department is issuing a warning to the public to be on high alert for phone calls and computer messages that seem fishy, as they are likely the same scammers who are hitting the area hard. One county resident, who lost $40,000 to these scammers, shared his experience Thursday morning at a communtiy meeting so that others could learn from it.

Under anonymity, the man said thieves, posing as tech support agents, told him his computer was hacked and his bank was compromised and gave him a number to call. When he called, a woman, posing as a bank employee, told him to withdraw cash from the bank and hand it over to a courier.
