‘How about the people that you’re hurting?’ | Seniors share heartfelt pleas as federal funding for meals threatened

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — As lawmakers in Washington debate how to spend billions of dollars, the consequences are already trickling down to local communities such as Fort Bend County.

Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, a nonprofit that delivers meals and wellness checks to thousands of older adults in Fort Bend and Waller counties, said it just learned this week it could lose a significant portion of its federal funding.

Executive Director Doug Simpson said the organization may be facing cuts as high as $250,000, or about 10 to 15 percent of its annual budget…
