Opelousas man indicted for rape and battery after Lafayette woman found in ‘ravine’

OPELOUSAS, La. (NEWS 15) — St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre said a grand jury indicted a man suspected of raping and beating a Lafayette woman.

He added Jakob Oakley, 22, of Opelousas, is formally charged with first-degree rape and aggravated second-degree battery.

According to authorities, the victim was discovered on McClelland Road in the Lawtell area on October 2, 2024, and received treatment at a local hospital. It is believed Oakley met the woman in Lafayette and took her to St. Landry Parish…
