Idaho communities unite for National Drug Take Back Day events on April 26

BOISE, Idaho — The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is partnering with law enforcement agencies across the country for a national Drug Take Back Day. Held on April 26, this is an opportunity for people to dispose of unused, unnecessary prescription drugs safely.

In a news release from Meridian Police Department, they state, “Prescription drug misuse often starts at home, with studies showing that most misused medications come from family and friends. The Idaho Healthy Youth Survey (2021) found that nearly 74% of Idaho youth who misused prescription drugs accessed them from their own home. Proper disposal is a simple, effective way to reduce this risk.”

Drug Take Back Day offers a secure, responsible way to dispose of expired, unused or otherwise unwanted prescription drugs, so they don’t harm the environment or get into the wrong hands. Meridian Police say that on 2024’s Drug Take Back Day, community members disposed of 819 pounds of medication…
