Two years have passed since the Las Vegas community lost Tabatha Tozzi, and yesterday, that community came together at Craig Ranch Park in North Las Vegas to remember and honor her. On April 22, 2023, Tozzi suffered a fatal gunshot wound and succumbed to her injuries two days later. Her former boyfriend, Oswaldo Perez-Sanchez, is accused of her murder and, after evading arrest for nearly two years, he was recently detained in Mexico for an unrelated crime— the murder of another woman. News 3 LV reported the shared sentiments of Tabatha’s mother, Regina Lacerda, who conveyed a mixture of relief and sorrow upon hearing of Perez-Sanchez’s arrest.
At the vigil, emotions were palpable as Tozzi’s urn, adorned with photos and paintings from her life, took center stage amidst the decorations. Blue accents—Tabatha’s favorite color—and her beloved butterflies were also featured. Lacerda, surrounded by posters clamoring for “Justice for Tabatha,” stated, “I will never, never stop fighting for my daughters justice. Never, never,” according to FOX5 Vegas. The arrest of Perez-Sanchez has provided a semblance of hope, yet the quest for justice remains as he faces charges in Mexico and awaits potential extradition to the United States.
During the gathering, Liz Ortenburger, CEO of domestic violence organization SafeNest, took the opportunity to emphasize the availability of resources for those trapped in abusive relationships. “I think any of us could see in that emotional testimony from Regina how phenomenal an advocate she is for this space, and sadly that her voice is being heard because of the tragic loss of her daughter,” Ortenburger told FOX5 Vegas.
