Katy Perry’s Lifetimes Tour Costumes Spark Controversy

Pop star Katy Perry kicked off her fifth concert tour, Lifetimes, in Mexico City this week, debuting a series of eye-catching costumes. Many of the outfits appear to be inspired by her recent Blue Origin spaceflight, a theme that has drawn mixed reactions from fans.

One ensemble, a mint green two-piece, was likened to “alien skin” by some observers. The textured, high-waisted bottoms and form-fitting top were accessorized with white combat boots and ripped stockings.

Another look featured a metallic blue outfit with heart-shaped bottoms, robotic thigh-high boots, and matching gloves. Perry completed the futuristic ensemble with blunt bangs and shimmering silver makeup.

While some fans praised the singer’s bold fashion choices, others criticized the space-themed aesthetic. The online commentary ranged from accusations of Perry “trying too hard” and being “desperate” to more pointed remarks about the costumes resembling a “diaper.” Some fans expressed disappointment with Perry’s recent spaceflight and indicated they had sold their concert tickets in protest.

Despite the backlash, Perry appears to be embracing the space theme. During her Mexico City performance, she invited two fans dressed in NASA astronaut suits onto the stage, referring to their attire as representative of her “most current timeline.”

She then posed for selfies with the fans. It remains to be seen whether Perry will address the criticism surrounding her space-inspired costumes as her tour continues.
