Tragedy Strikes Steelers First-Round Pick Derrick Harmon

Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft pick Derrick Harmon experienced a devastating loss just hours after being selected. His mother, Tiffany Saine, passed away late Thursday night. The news comes shortly after the Steelers chose the Oregon defensive lineman with the 21st overall pick.

Harmon had shared his mother’s health struggles after being drafted, stating she was on life support in a Detroit-area hospital. Saine had battled through multiple brain surgeries and a stroke in recent years. The 21-year-old cited his mother as a driving force in his journey from Michigan State to Oregon.

Steelers President Art Rooney II offered condolences on behalf of the organization: “Though we are excited to welcome Derrick to the Steelers, our hearts are heavy with the news of his mother’s passing. We offer Derrick and his family our deepest sympathies and unwavering support during this difficult time. We hope he finds strength in the support of the Steelers organization and fans worldwide.”
