Vietnam Tunnel Rat sharing his story in West Columbia

On May 2, the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum’s popular Noon Debrief lecture series kicks off at a new location — and it starts with a powerful firsthand account: “Tunnel Rats of Vietnam.”

The debut event in the new setting will feature one of the museum’s most compelling and crowd-favorite speakers, Vietnam veteran C.W. Bowman. He’ll share his extraordinary experiences at noon on Friday, May 2, at the Cayce-West Columbia Branch of the Lexington County Public Library, located at 1500 Augusta Road in West Columbia.

Bowman served in one of the most dangerous and claustrophobic roles in the Vietnam War: that of a “tunnel rat.” Alone, armed only with a pistol and a flashlight, he was tasked with crawling into the narrow underground tunnels used by the Viet Cong — seeking out hidden enemies and gathering vital intelligence…
