‘Stepping stone’: Downtown Lakeland market offers new artisans a taste of brick and mortar

Two Downtown Lakeland businesses owners are using their own success to hopefully provide a stepping stone to other local entrepreneurs.

Chef Tina Calhoon, owner of Frescos Southern Kitchen & Bar, and her husband, Tim, have transformed 126 S. Kentucky Ave., formerly Taco Bus, into a vibrant retail space. Market on Kentucky quietly opened its doors in January without much fanfare, but will celebrate is grand opening 4:30 p.m. May 1.

“It came about from watching everyone at the farmers market, listening to young entrepreneurs talk about how they would love to get out and have that next step,” Tina Calhoon said. “We are lucky enough to be at the point in business where we could afford building out a space that was 90% dedicated to young entrepreneurs to be a stepping stone.”
