Man charged after falsely reporting dog as stray in Canandaigua

A Canandaigua man is facing charges after authorities say he falsely reported a dog as a stray in an attempt to surrender the animal.

Danni-Lynn Scott, 28, of Brookside Apartments, was arrested following an investigation by the Ontario County Humane Society. Officials said Scott called the agency on April 8 at about 11:18 a.m. to report a black and white dog running loose at his apartment complex. Scott claimed he secured the dog and did not know who the owner was.

Responding officers picked up the dog, a male Border Collie mix estimated to be between two and three years old, and transported him to the Humane Society shelter. Shortly after, a witness contacted authorities and reported that Scott had been caring for the dog, named Olaf, for several days.
