Gretna Man Charged with Reckless Driving and Drug Possession Near Bonnabel Park

Last Sunday, a routine day near Bonnabel Park and Boat Launch turned into an ordeal when Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents detained Ashton Strohmeyer, 33, of Gretna, on several charges, including reckless operation of a vehicle and drug possession. According to a report from the department, agents were on patrol when they noticed a Ford truck swerving dangerously close to families and children enjoying the park.

Upon stopping the truck, authorities found Strohmeyer with cocaine. Further inquiries revealed that he had open arrest warrants through the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The charges levied against him carry potential fines and jail time, with up to $200 and 90 days for the reckless driving, and as much as $500 and two years for cocaine possession. The department highlighted the agents responsible for the arrest, Senior Agent Jimmie Daniel and Sgt. William Arteaga, for their actions in safeguarding the public.
