This week in 1996, a trial to determine who mishandled 500,000 cubic yards of contaminated Alamodome soil ended quickly with the announcement that a settlement had been reached.
Two years in the making, the “dome dirt” trial pitting the city of San Antonio against Alamodome contractors and the site’s former owner ended just four minutes after jurors took their seats, according to newspaper reports.
The settlement with Alamo Iron Works, reached on April 29, 1996, along with previous agreements reached with other involved parties, meant the city would get $5.7 million to help cover cleanup costs…
