Popular Today Show Host May Leave NBC

NBC News and MSNBC to Split, Layoffs Expected

In a major restructuring, NBC News and MSNBC are separating, potentially impacting on-air talent at both networks, including popular Today Show personalities. This division follows a period of upheaval for the Today Show, including Hoda Kotb’s departure last year and a subsequent rotation of guest co-hosts alongside Jenna Bush Hager.

While the Today Show will remain with NBC News, other prominent NBCUniversal networks, including CNBC, USA, E!, and Syfy, will be part of the MSNBC split. This separation will see MSNBC relocate within 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.

The move comes as both networks brace for potential layoffs, according to reports. While MSNBC has seen a ratings rebound after a post-2024 election slump, the decline of cable television viewership is cited as the primary reason for the restructuring.

Among those potentially affected is Today Show and NBC News political correspondent Jacob Soboroff, who is speculated to be moving to MSNBC. Soboroff, author of “Separated: Inside an American Tragedy,” has yet to comment publicly. Meanwhile, Willie Geist, known for his roles on both Morning Joe and the Sunday Today Show, represents a rare exception, expected to continue appearing on both networks.
