Beyoncé and Solange Went to Therapy Together as Kids

Additional Coverage:

Tina Knowles, mother of superstars Beyoncé and Solange, recently revealed on CBS Mornings that she sent her daughters to therapy as children to help strengthen their bond. Knowles told Gayle King that as Beyoncé’s fame grew, the sisters’ relationship became strained. With the added attention and activity surrounding Beyoncé’s early singing group rehearsals at their home, Solange sometimes felt overlooked.

Knowles noticed a growing divide and decided to intervene, despite pushback from family members, including her ex-husband, Mathew Knowles. “My family was upset,” she shared, recalling Mathew’s resistance to the idea.

She felt it was crucial to address the situation early on, wanting to ensure her daughters remained close. This isn’t the first time Knowles has spoken about this decision.

In a 2018 interview, she expressed her hope that therapy would foster sensitivity and protectiveness between the sisters. She also made a point of dedicating individual time to each daughter, setting aside Wednesdays specifically for Solange.

Child psychology experts confirm that sibling rivalry is common, and suggest strategies like setting clear expectations and ensuring one-on-one time with each child to mitigate potential conflict. Allowing children to express their perspectives without assigning blame is also recommended as a way to resolve disagreements constructively. It appears Knowles’ proactive approach paid off, as Beyoncé and Solange are known for their close and supportive relationship today.
