Weather whiplash ahead as Bay Area trades sunny skies for weekend rain and wind

After an overcast weekend , sunny weather is set to return to the Bay Area — but not for long.

A high-pressure system will strengthen over California through Wednesday, bringing a sharp warming trend. “Mostly clear skies are expected this afternoon, which will be a nice change after a dreary weekend,” National Weather Service meteorologist Dylan Flynn wrote in Monday’s forecast discussion .

Inland areas should see highs in the low to mid-70s this week, while coastal areas will stay cooler in the low 60s due to a developing marine layer.
