House returns with no plan to fix DC budget crisis

WASHINGTON — After a two week break, the House is back in session Monday — but there’s still no plan to fix a budget issue that could force over a million dollars in cuts here in D.C.

And with no plan, Mayor Muriel Bowser has warned that the District will have to act to limit spending beginning this week. That includes a freeze on hiring new employees, a freeze on the authorization of overtime pay for work performed after April 27 and a freeze on pay raises, bonuses and promotions.

Bowser said actions would have to be implemented for work performed after April 27, but she repeated her warnings over the weekend, she wrote on X, “After this week, if the house has still not passed the POTUS-approved DC budget fix for FY25, we will be forced to finalize plans and make real cuts to deal with a fake budget crisis.”…
