Beloved “General Hospital” Character Returns From the Grave

Additional Coverage:

Beloved General Hospital character Mike Corbin (Max Gail) returned from the great beyond on the April 28, 2025 episode. Appearing as a ghost, Mike visited his son, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), who is recovering from major heart surgery.

Sonny’s heart problems stem from a previous gunshot wound, and have caused multiple collapses and intense concern from loved ones. Doctor Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson), ex-wife Carly (Laura Wright), enforcer Jason (Steve Burton), daughter Kristina (Kate Mansi), and current flame Natalia Ramirez (Eva LaRue) all urged him to seek medical help.

It wasn’t until his nemesis, Ava Jerome (Maura West), threatened to use his health against him in a custody battle for their daughter that Sonny finally agreed to surgery. Now facing a difficult crossroads, Sonny receives some otherworldly guidance from his ghostly father.

Max Gail took over the role of Mike Corbin in 2018 from Ron Hale, who played the part on and off since 1995. Gail portrayed Mike until the character’s death from Alzheimer’s in 2020. This isn’t his first ghostly return; Gail reappeared in 2021 to guide Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and Brando’s (Johnny Wactor) son Liam to heaven.

A familiar face on screen, Gail started his acting career in 1971 and is best known for his role as Detective Stan “Wojo” Wojcehowcz on Barney Miller. Since his time on General Hospital, Gail has appeared in various projects, including Blackout, Chicago Med, and Magnum P.I., and has a short film, Dancing Home, in post-production.

General Hospital airs weekdays at 2 p.m. ET and streams on Hulu.
