Conviction, sentence of New Iberia man who killed Lafayette toddler upheld by appellate court

LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — The Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal has upheld the conviction and life sentence of Christopher Ledet Jr., 25, of New Iberia, for the murder of 22-month-old Kaceston Freeman. Ledet was found guilty by a Lafayette Parish jury in December 2023 for the July 2022 murder.

Ledet appealed his conviction, claiming insufficient evidence. The appellate court noted Freeman’s autopsy revealed brain hemorrhaging and a lacerated liver caused by blunt force injuries. The court highlighted testimony from medical personnel, law enforcement, and Freeman’s family.
