Northwest suburban police sergeant relieved of duties, criminally charged after getting in traffic dispute in which gun was fired

ELGIN, Ill. — A northwest suburban police sergeant has been relieved of his duties and is facing criminal charges after he was involved in a traffic dispute earlier this month in which a gun was fired.

Carlos Saez, a sergeant with over 19 years with the Rolling Meadows Police Department, was arrested by Elgin police on Wednesday, April 23, and has been charged with several offenses, Rolling Meadows police said in a news release.

According to the release, Elgin police officers responded to a dispute involving a firearm in the 1100 block of Dundee Avenue on that date. A preliminary investigation indicated the incident began as a traffic dispute between two people, during which time a gun was fired.

Saez was identified as one of the individuals involved in the incident, and Rolling Meadows police say he’s been relieved of duties and placed on administrative leave. An internal investigation is being conducted by the Rolling Meadows Police Department…
