San Joaquin County non-profit organizations implement reductions in response to funding cuts

(FOX40.COM)–Non-profits in San Joaquin County are calling for state action after federal cuts of $400 million to Americorps were made at the national level.  Mario Fedelin, the CEO for Changeist says, “We need a deal.  We need a deal where our young people have good opportunities in this state.”

California is just one of several states impacted by the cuts by Doge, other states include Colorado and Mississippi, according to state leaders.  Two local non-profits focusing on youth empowerment like the Stockton Service Corps, and Improve Your Tomorrow, say they are already seeing an impact.

Jesus Andrade, Executive Director of Improve Your Tomorrow, says, “Overnight, thousands of youths lost their mentors, and overnight, it impacted not just youth, but also families who rely on us to be that support service.”  Andrade went on to say, “It was a $700,000 grant gone in a flash.  Yesterday we had to lay off or exit 26 members who have dedicated full-time service to Stockton, and Los Angeles, and that’s about 6,000 people across the state that are impacted somehow.”…
