Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office release details on fatal deputy-involved shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office held a news conference Wednesday to give details on a March 6, 2025, fatal deputy-involved shooting.

BCSO says deputies were dispatched around 4 a.m. to the 500 block of Live Oak Pl., near Paseo Del Norte and Tramway in northeast Albuquerque, for reports of a disturbance. The father of Brian Padilla, 35, called and informed dispatch that Padilla was going through a mental episode and destroying things in the house, becoming violent and had armed himself with various items including a table leg, scissors and knife. BCSO says prior to deputies arriving, cameras from neighbors homes show Padilla attacking one neighbors vehicle with a rock and appearing to stab a different neighbors garage door with scissors or a knife.

A BCSO deputy arrives on scene scene and encounters Padilla, armed with a knife and scissors. Padilla did not comply with commands to drop the weapons and walked toward the deputy. The deputy fired multiple shots, striking Padilla. Less than a minute later another deputy arrives on scene and they begin rendering aid to Padilla, who was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries…
