Albany man accused of menacing, brandishing gun in Cohoes

WATERVLIET, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Watervliet police arrested an Albany man on Thursday after he allegedly brandished a gun in Cohoes, according to the department. Tyler Amos, 36, reportedly faces multiple felony charges.

At about 10:50 p.m. on April 22, the Cohoes Police Department responded to a home on Main Street for a report of a man — identified as Amos — menacing and brandishing a handgun in the direction of the second floor residence, Cohoes Police Chief Todd Waldin told NEWS10. Upon arrival, Amos and a person with him had reportedly already left the scene.

After the incident, Cohoes police released Amos’s description to neighboring authorities and on Thursday, the Troy Police Department reported observing him riding an electric bike into Watervliet, according to Waldin. Amos was located near 19th Street and 3rd Avenue, allegedly in violation of multiple vehicle and traffic laws.

During a collaborative investigation between Cohoes and Watervliet police, officers found Amos with a loaded, illegally possessed .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun, authorities said. He reportedly received charges from both the Cohoes Police Department and the Watervliet Police Department:

Cohoes Police Department charges

  • Menacing (two counts)
  • Criminal possession of a weapon (two counts)
  • Endangering the welfare of a child

Watervliet Police Department charges

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (felony)
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, previous conviction (felony)
  • NYS vehicle and traffic law violations

Amos was arraigned in Watervliet City Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility, police said. Cohoes police told NEWS10 that they do not plan to charge the person that was with Amos during the initial menacing incident…
