OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – April is the month of second chances and an organization called Better Together is partnering with a Marion County Church to host a job fair in honor of National Second Chances Month.
According to Better Together, the organization sponsoring this fair, more than 10,000 Americans are released from prison every week and with no job prospects. Two thirds of them lose hope and return to prison, but when you walk into the second chance job fair, there’s a wall with every job offer and employer posted. Participants can then talk to employers, tell their story, and once a job or interview is landed, a bell is rung and everyone celebrates.
“One of the things we look forward to is that smile on their face,” Steven Smith, the co-pastor, shared. “I did a workshop with them this past weekend. We showed resume writing interview techniques, just getting them prepared, and we’re excited, I think they’re excited, we’re going to have bell ringing when they get the interview and have a job, it’s just going to be amazing.”…
