Passenger rail service through San Clemente was suspended beginning on Monday, April 28, as construction crews began emergency stabilization work along the Los Angeles–San Diego–San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) Rail Corridor.
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), in coordination with Metrolink and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, is taking action to protect the only coastal rail link between San Diego and Orange counties, following continued threats from privately owned bluffs and coastal erosion.
The closure is expected to last approximately six weeks, affecting Metrolink’s Orange County and Inland Empire-Orange County lines, along with Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner trains through the area. During construction, Metrolink will continue southbound service as far as the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Station. For the latest update, passengers are encouraged to check metrolinktrains.com/service-updates. Amtrak Pacific Surfliner will operate modified service between San Luis Obispo and San Juan Capistrano, as well as between Ocean-side and San Diego, with bus connections between Irvine and Oceanside.
