The storm threats are higher for Thursday due to the expected greater coverage. Wind gusts will be the primary concern, and hail up to 1 inch in diameter (the size of a quarter coin). The tornado risk is still low, but a tad higher due to the available spin in the atmosphere (especially at the storm onset near the Tennessee River, decreasing farther east with time).
Timing out the storms, starting Wednesday late evening and early Thursday morning, there will be a few isolated strong storms. There is a Marginal Risk through 7 a.m. Thursday for parts of Southern Kentucky. Main concern would be for wind gusts and a very low tornado risk.
The main timing of the storms will be on Thursday, starting around midday near the Tennessee River. These will move east through the afternoon with daytime heating. At the Tennessee River (where storms start), rotation and an isolated tornado potential will be the highest. As the storms move across other areas, the overall storm risk would be wind gusts and hail (a lower tornado risk).
While storms end Thursday evening, additional rain chances continue on Friday ahead of the cold front. Rain ends early Saturday morning, turning cooler and drier.
