Springfield restaurant scrambles to reopen after losing food due to power outage

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3)—When the power goes out, it doesn’t take long before the food in your fridge goes bad. And with it off for so long, that spoiled food adds up, especially for restaurants.

One of those restaurants in downtown Springfield is Gailey’s Breakfast Cafe. The restaurant lost power around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday. That power didn’t come back on until late Tuesday night. By then, Gailey’s owner had to make some tough choices.

“When we started seeing our coolers and everything start losing temp, which was last night, that’s when we knew we had to start doing something,” said Nicole Edwards, owner of Gailey’s Breakfast Cafe. “We had to either take the food somewhere else, give it away, or pitch it.”…
