Is Big Brother Your iPhone? 3 Privacy Settings to Change Now

Ever get the feeling your iPhone is watching you? You’re not alone.

Many apps collect data and track your location, sometimes for seemingly harmless reasons like tailoring ads or improving user experience. However, this data collection can feel like a privacy invasion.

Take control of your digital footprint by tweaking these three key settings:

  1. Shut Down Ad Tracking: Tired of targeted ads following you around the internet?

Stop apps from tracking your online activity. First, deny tracking permission when prompted by newly downloaded apps.

Then, disable ad tracking altogether to prevent future requests. This ensures you’re never accidentally giving away your browsing history.

Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, and toggle off “Allow Apps to Request to Track.”

  1. Silence the Snoopers (Microphone and Camera Access): Know which apps have access to your microphone and camera.

Review these permissions and revoke access from any apps that don’t absolutely need it. Find these settings under Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone (and Camera).

While you’re at it, consider disabling “Hey Siri” (Settings > Siri & Search) to prevent accidental eavesdropping.

  1. Location, Location, Location (Management): Some apps genuinely need your location to function, like navigation apps.

Others, not so much. Review which apps have location access and customize their permissions.

Choose from “Never,” “Ask Next Time Or When I Share,” “While Using the App,” or “Always.” Find these settings under Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.

Take charge of your location data and keep your movements private.
