Man sees charges upgraded in deadly I-77 crash in Iredell County

STATESVILLE, N.C. — Upgraded charges have been announced more than a week after a deadly crash on Interstate 77 in Iredell County.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol announced on April 30 that Benjamin Wesley Overton, 31, of Walkertown, now faces two counts of aggravated felony death by vehicle and two counts of second-degree murder. The agency said the charges were upgraded after further investigation and consultation with the district attorney’s office.
