The tree that stood its ground

The article in last week’s T-A about “buying the view” jostled my brain and took me back a few decades. I recall an issue in Del Mar with a homeowner being upset with another owner’s tree blocking his view of the ocean. The way I see it, that tree was there before the homes were built since it was a quite large tree.

The blocked owner wanted the tree removed and the view blocker refused to cut down his tree. The tree was his and not the property of the owner who couldn’t get a clear view of the water. And yes you guessed it. Here come the judge, here come the judge! I believe the tree stood its grounds and remains today. No one owns a view.

I remember when a buyer purchased a home directly opposite Hidden Valley Middle School. Not long after the new owner complained to the school board and or to the city about the noise created by the kids during recesses. I’m pretty sure the owner noticed the school when previewing the home—at least once…
