STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A recent rally of Staten Island parents, who allege that there’s not enough being done to satisfy their safety concerns at a borough elementary school, has put a spotlight on security and disciplinary policies set by the New York City education department.
Last week, a group of parents and grandparents of a third grade class at PS 8 distributed flyers outside the Great Kills school to call on city Department of Education officials to take more rigorous action regarding what they allege are safety concerns involving a student.
The parents claim that a student in their child’s classroom exhibited behavior that they say raised concerns for the safety of both students and staff at the school. This student was also apparently suspended one time during the current school year, parents say…
