El Paso pays triple for downtown lots, calls convention center deal a long-term investment

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The City of El Paso is advancing plans to expand its downtown convention center, committing nearly $4.8 million to acquire two properties valued significantly lower than the purchase price.

The El Paso City Council unanimously approved the acquisition of properties at 301 W Overland and 320 W San Antonio, which are currently appraised at just over $1.6 million.
