‘It’s progress’: US-64 rebuild begins after months of post-Helene debris removal

BAT CAVE, N.C. (WLOS) — One of the most-traveled roads in Henderson County is now starting to be rebuilt more than seven months after Hurricane Helene.

The storm presented challenges to big road projects all across Western North Carolina, and US-64 from Edneyville to Bat Cave is no different. The actual rebuilds just started because debris removal took six months along US-64 specifically.

“A lot of the work we’ve been doing was moving debris from the hurricane,” assistant resident engineer Ali Gering told News 13. “There was a lot more debris than originally thought. We realized there’s a lot more that goes into this.”…
