Ethical dilemma: Marco Island City Councilors talk about laws and complaints against them

Three Marco Island City Council members who recently had ethics complaints filed against them and subsequently dismissed by a state investigatory commission say they will continue to follow the law and hope their fellow councilors will too.

“I think it is important that all of us councilors follow the law,” said Councilwoman Bonita Schwan in a phone interview.

Schwan and councilor Darrin Palumbo were accused in complaints to State of Florida Commission on Ethics by Councilman Stephen Gray of conspiring “to offer Acting Chairman Erik Brechnitz their support for his bid to become chairman of the council, a position that includes a $3,000 salary increase, in exchange for his vote on a specific matter of deliberation.”…
