Kailua man pleads guilty in scam that cost elderly victim his home, yacht

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Kailua man has pleaded guilty in a nearly $2 million scam that cost an elderly California man his home and yacht.

Authorities say John McCabe offered to help sell the victim’s yacht, but instead fabricated documents to change the ownership, then pocketed all of the money.

The U.S. Department of Justice said the 42-year-old also convinced the victim to transfer his million-dollar home into an LLC that McCabe owned, then defaulted on the loans, leaving the victim homeless…
